Child Health and Maternity Services Self Assessment and Benchmarking Tools
Introduction
This website provides access to four tools which are designed to help Commissioners and local health economies assess their progress toward implementation of the the National Service Framework for Children, Young People and Maternity Services, including the baseline assessment which is required for Maternity Matters. These tools are:- Self Assessment Matrix for the Children, Young People & Maternity Services NSF
- Self Assessment Matrix for Maternity Matters (the baseline assessment)
- Commissioners Benchmarking Tool for Maternity Services
- Commissioners Benchmarking Tool for Child Health Services
The Child Health Commissioners Benchmarking Tool has also been launched as a CD ROM. This tool can be found at DH website.
The Maternity Matters Self Assessment has been designed to work with the Standard 11 Self Assessment. As Maternity Matters is primarily a sub-set of Standard 11 completion of cross-linked questions in one can be carried over to the other. Instructions for this are contained on the Maternity Matters page.
Within the NSF Self Assessment the Standard 8 component has been built on the Standard 8 Audit Tool. All the Self Assessment questions are identical to the Standard 8 tool.
All four of these tools will generate an action plan based on the scores you have entered.
How to get going
To use the tool go to the Self Assessment Summary page. Here you will see the main Topic headings. Select a Topic heading to view the questions for that Topic.Use the 'Comments' box to record any notes you want to make about each of the indicators.
Use the 'Score' combo / drop box to select your score for each item. The programme will add up all your scores and add them to the summary sheet automatically. It will also generate an action plan for you based on all the items for which the success criteria are not yet met.
You can either use your mouse to move between the fields or the 'Tab' key on your keyboard, which will take you from one text or combo box to the next.
How the info buttons work
Click the 'Info' buttons (question mark) to reveal the guidance notes for each item. These provide more detailed guidance on how you should assess your score. When you have read the guidance, click the guidance text and it will close the notes.Action Plan
When you have answered all the questions you can go to the Carry Forward Actions page. This page enables you to select the items you need to work on in your action plan. After selecting your action items, either individually or by using the 'select all' option you can use the Action Plan template. This provides a means of recording your action items, proposals for taking them forward and who is the lead. You can also prioritise your actions.
Printing
The Action Plan can be printed straight from your browser, or alternatively you could save it as a spreadsheet file and format it before printing locally. The Self Assessment is printable as a PDF file using the button at the foot of the Self Assessment Summary page.
